A team of alleged credit card fraudsters were arrested at a Blouberg hotel.
According to a report by Table View police, it all started when the hotel received a booking request for which payment was made on Friday 13 January.
Police spokesperson Captain Adriana Chandler says there was a possibility that the transaction was fraudulent and the booking was reported to the bank’s forensic investigation unit.
The following morning the fraudulent booking was confirmed by another bank’s forensic investigation unit and Table View police were alerted. The next day Sergeant Nathaniel van Rooi and Sergeant Cameron Carls accompanied officials from the forensic investigation units and were taken to the hotel room.
“There was no answer and a staff member of the hotel unlocked the door. Two males were sitting in the bedroom and smoking cannabis. Another two suspects were discovered in another part of the hotel room. The room was searched and the officers discovered cannabis, crystal methamphetamine, drug paraphernalia and mandrax tablets. Hard cover books were also found, which contained numerous credit card numbers with CVV numbers and expiry dates.”
She says the details of 264 cards were found in the books.
Chandler says three men and one woman aged between 25 and 28 were arrested.
