A man was left critically injured on Saturday (26 November) afternoon after he crashed into a tree on the N1 highway near Kraaifontein.

Shortly after his crash near the Brighton Road off-ramp, his vehicle caught alight.

“Paramedics arrived on the scene shortly after 14:00 where they found the vehicle well alight against the tree,” says ER24 spokesperson Russel Meiring.

Paramedics found the man lying some distance away from his vehicle.

“The man was assessed and found to have sustained numerous injuries and was in a critical condition.

Paramedics treated the man and provided him with advanced life interventions. Once treated, the man was transported to Groote Schuur Hospital for urgent treatment,” he says.

It is believed that the driver lost control of his vehicle, causing it to crash into the tree. A passing motorist witnessed the vehicle burst into flames and immediately rushed to the man’s aid, pulling him from the vehicle.

Local authorities were on the scene for further investigations.
