Apex High School in Eerste River celebrated the achievements of its “Covid Cohort” after the school was once again one of the shining lights in the community.
Renate van der Westhuizen, principal at Apex, said they are celebrating the incredible resilience and achievements of the 2024 Matric Class. “This cohort began their high school journey in 2020, a year marked by the upheaval of Covid-19. Despite the disruptions and challenges they faced, these young men and women proved that perseverance and hard work can overcome any obstacle.”
The school recorded a pass rate of 95,4%, 62,9% bachelor pass rate (an all time high for the school), 110 bachelor passes, 67 subject distinctions and a 100% pass rate in Afrikaans Home Language, Dramatic Arts, English First Additional Language, Geography, Religion Studies, Tourism, Visual Arts and Life Orientation.
According to Van der Westhuizen the matriculants have set a new benchmark for excellence and determination.
“As a school, we are bursting with pride for our learners and the incredible effort they poured into last year’s achievements. This year, our hearts swell even more as we celebrate the 110 students who earned bachelor passes and the many who have already secured spots at the universities of their dreams. These results are more than numbers—they are the fruits of resilience, determination, and teamwork.
The journey began back in Grade 8 when this group faced the unprecedented challenge of learning during a pandemic. Our teachers rose to the occasion.”
