A woman arrested along with her male partner in connection with the murder of a Bloubergstrand car guard last week has been released, police confirmed.
The couple were taken into custody on Sunday 31 August, after detectives traced them to a residence in Cape Town. This followed the fatal stabbing of a man in the early hours at Marine Circle, Bloubergstrand.
“The woman arrested and charged together with her male partner for the murder of a Bloubergstrand car guard, of which there is CCTV age, has been freed,” Table View police spokesperson Capt Adriana Chandler confirmed.
Court appearance
The male suspect, 30, appeared briefly in the Cape Town Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday 2 September on a charge of murder. His name may not yet be released, pending confirmation from the investigating team.
The female suspect, 24, was released before the court proceedings. The case against her was formally withdrawn. The matter has been postponed for a bail information hearing.
Fatal stabbing
Police officers on routine patrols were called to Marine Circle after a crowd had gathered around the scene. They discovered the body of a car guard with a fatal stab wound under his arm. Paramedics declared him dead at the scene.
On the same day detectives obtained video footage that assisted in identifying two suspects. Both were traced and arrested shortly before 12:00.
Separate burglary incident
In a separate incident, an intruder died after falling from a window at a house in St Martin Crescent, Bloubergstrand after being confronted by the homeowner, an 87-year-old Bloubergstrand woman, who escaped serious harm.
The man reportedly forced a window open to gain entry. The woman woke up and on confronting him she fought back and shouted for help. The commotion drew the attention of neighbours.
The suspect attempted to flee by jumping from a window, but fell and sustained a fatal head injury. Concerned neighbours rushed to the woman’s aid and confirmed she was unharmed. At the time of publication TygerBurger was still waiting for comment from the victim.
Police were continuing their investigations into the Marine Circle murder case.
