A local councillor has died following a long battle with cancer.
According to a statement by City of Cape Town mayor Patricia de Lille, Cynthia Claasen was a proportional councillor for the DA in subcouncil 2.
Subcouncil 2 consists of six wards and includes various communities such as Scottsdene, Kraaifontein, Wallacedene, Brackenfell and the parts of Kuils River among others.
De Lille says Claasen also served as a committee member on the Area Based Oversight Committee for Area1 (North).
“Claasen lost her life after a long battle with cancer. She was truly a fighter, who often returned to work soon after bouts of chemotherapy because of the passion she had to serve her community. She will truly be missed. I would like to express heartfelt condolences to her family on behalf of the City of Cape Town. Our thoughts and prayers are with her loved ones during this time of bereavement,” says De Lille.
