There are two signs at the park – one on the De Grendel Avenue side, and the Swellengrebel Street side, says ward councillor Miquette Temlett.

Bothasig residents have been encouraged to continue to log complaints as service requests with the City of Cape Town or to contact the City’s Law Enforcement Unit if they encounter any issues.

This follows a visit by local Ward 5 councillor Miquette Temlett to De Grendel Park this week, a public park often frequented by rough sleepers.

“Unfortunately, I did notice quite a bit of litter,” she said in her social media, “and we remain aware that the park is often used by rough sleepers. Please know that my office, City departments such as the Displaced Persons Unit (DPU) and Law Enforcement are working very hard in this park to keep it safe, clean, and accessible for everyone.

“But we cannot do it alone, we need out community’s help.”

There are however positive improvements.

“I am very happy to report that the entire walkway has now been completed,” Temlett said, “a fantastic improvement for all who use the park. The basketball nets have been removed for repairs, and we have logged several maintenance issues with the relevant departments to ensure the park continues to stay in good condition.

“Let us work together to keep De Grendel Park neat, tidy and a safe space for all.”

This week Temlett also visited schools in the area, held a community meeting and met with the Metro Police Neighbourhood Safety Officers (NSOs).
