Western
Cape police are allegedly preparing for widespread student protests on Thursday
19 January.

According
to a document leaked to TygerBurger on Wednesday
night (18 January), several station
and cluster commanders have received an order to prepare for widespread protest
action allegedly being organised by the South African Further Education and
Training Students Association.

The
document was sent to police clusters in Tygerberg, Cape Town, Khayelitsha and
Wynberg, as well as to station commanders at Cape Town Central and Goodwood,
among several others, on Wednesday.

It states
the association is unhappy about bursaries, NSFAS, accommodation, corruption
and maladministration at FET colleges.

It also
states that students held a meeting at the College of Cape Town on Wednesday to
plan the protest.

“They
may disrupt new registrations and classes at various colleges, burn tyres,
throw petrol bombs, damage buildings and block entrances to the campuses,”
the document states.
