Cops dismiss burnt human body as that of dog

According to the resident who had called the Kraaifontein police to the scene, the members were not sure if the remains were that of a burnt human or a dog.

Local police apparently dismissed the burnt body of an unknown person found in Kraaifontein yesterday afternoon (Tuesday 15 August) as that of a dog, and left the crime scene.

They were allegedly called back by a resident who, on further inspection, found human remains.

According to the resident who had called the Kraaifontein police to the scene, the members were not sure if the remains were that of a burnt human or a dog.

“The police came to the scene and said that it is probably a dog, and left,” the resident told TygerBurger.

The resident, from Scottsdene, then investigated further and found the rest of the human remains.

He then called the police again, who realised it was indeed a human body, he says.

Western Cape police spokesperson, Captain André Traut, on Wednesday confirmed to TygerBurger that the body of an unknown person was found burnt beyond recognition in Memorial Park in Eikendal, Kraaifontein.

Traut could not, however, confirm the allegation. The Kraaifontein Police did not respond to the enquiry sent by the time of going to print.

“The circumstances surrounding the murder case are being investigated by the police.”

Traut says no arrests have been made yet.
