A quick-thinking police officer from Table View Police Station has nabbed two men for cocaine worth more than R10 000.
According to a police report the men were caught by Captain Jonathan Myburgh and will appear in the Cape Town Magistrate’s Court this morning (Monday 19 December).
Police spokesperson Captain Adriana Chandler says on Friday 16 December shortly after 01:00, Myburgh was patrolling down Parklands Main Road when he noticed a vehicle driving in the lane for oncoming traffic and then swerved back into the correct lane.
Myburgh turned his vehicle around in order to follow this vehicle and called for back up.
Chandler says the same vehicle again went into the lane of oncoming traffic.
“The driver of the vehicle was heading towards the R27 West Coast Road down Link Road. Myburgh then pulled up next to the vehicle on the R27 and instructed the driver to pull off, which he complied with. There were two male occupants inside the vehicle. Still waiting for back up, Myburgh cautiously approached the vehicle, identified himself as a police officer and instructed the driver to switch the ignition off and both occupants to place their hands on the dash board.”
Chandler says at this stage additional police had arrived accompanied by neighbourhood watch patrollers. Myburgh started to question the driver about driving on the wrong side of the road, to which the only response was that he was sorry.
“Permission was asked to search the vehicle, and it was granted. Police found plastic bags inside the vehicle containing an illegal substance, which resembled cocaine to the street value of approximately R10 200.00. Both suspects, aged 21 and 34 were arrested and detained at Table View Police Station.”
