Western Cape police have confirmed a shooting at Kraaaifontein Police Station on Wednesday (19 April) where a police constable accidentally shot another officer.
According to a message received from several sources the incident occurred after 20:00 where two officers were sitting in a police vehicle. According to the message, one of the officers accidentally discharged a firearm hitting another officer.
Asked to verify the contents of the message, police spokesperson Captain FC van Wyk confirms the incident and says the officer has died.
“An inquest case was registered for investigation.”
The incident is now being investigated by the Independent Police Investigative Directorate (Ipid).
