Some people will be sad, but most will be happy.
These are the words of Graham Lindhorst from the Bishop Lavis Community Policing Forum after the killing of two alleged gangsters in the precinct over the weekend.
“It sad that someone has to lose his life, but in a community like ours we are relieved when we hear that the people who terrorise our community have been removed,” says Lindhorst.
On Saturday the body of a known gangster was found under a blanket in Vaalbos Street.
“Later on the police was on visible patrol in a known hotspot in Loganberry Street. They saw a car that they were looking for and chased after it. After a while the car stopped and someone started shooting at the police. They returned fire and shot and killed the individual. This individual was later identified as a convicted murderer and known terror in the area,” says Lindhorst.
According to him they are fighting hard to clean up the area from gangsters.
“Our children deserve to live in a place that is free of crime. They deserve to not be afraid of walking the streets and we hope that one day we will achieve that,” says Lindhorst.
On Sunday the CPF hosted a prayer service at the real Life Christian Centre.
“More than 800 people attended and we hope it is the start of great things to come. We focused on all the positive things in the community and left the negative behind,” says Lindhorst.
Local councillor Angus Mckenzie says the wages of sin is death.
“As we continue our pressure on gangsters in the area they will continue to eliminate themselves. Our law enforcement agencies must be commended for working together. They work overtime to continue making Bonteheuwel a safer community. A critical part of the success remains the community who have continued to provide us with valuable information on gang activity,” says Mckenzie.
The police has confirmed that an Ipid investigation is under way after the suspect was killed.
