Car thieves got more than they bargained for when visiting Table View today, where police and various crime fighting organisations were clamping down hard on crime.

According to a report, Table View police Sergeant Rowan Dowie and Constable Lucinda Goodman received information that a car involved in a theft of motor vehicle case the previous day in Table View, was seen on the corners of Dolphin Drive and Otto du Plessis Drive.

Police spokesperson, Captain Adriana Chandler, says the officers made their way to the scene accompanied by various armed response vehicles, neighbourhood watch members and a car hire company vehicle.

“The vehicle with three occupants was apprehended in Erica Drive, Table View.  The occupants looked stunned and gave their cooperation to the SAPS employees.

“The suspects, aged in their early 20s and 30s, were positively linked from video footage to the theft of a motor vehicle the previous day.  Theft of motor vehicle implements were also found in their possession. The suspects claimed to be from Delft, Phillippi East and Nyanga.”

The possibility that these suspects could be linked to other theft of motor vehicle cases will be investigated, she adds.
