A crowbar burglar in Milnerton was caught by residents and handed to police on Wednesday 17 May.
According to a report from Milnerton cluster police spokesperson, Constable Debbie Alard, the incident occurred shortly after 08:00 in School Street.
“According to the complainant he was at his house when he heard someone trying to force the door open with a crowbar. As the complainant opened the door, three unknown men entered, one with a firearm. The other male suspects had knives and they pushed the complainant and covered his face as they searched his house. He then screamed for help and neighbours came to assist him.”
Alard says the suspects took a cellphone, cash and bank cards before fleeing the scene. One of the men, however, was apprehended by residents who handed him over to police.
She says the crowbar was left on the crime scene and confiscated by police as evidence.
The suspect was charged and will appear in the Cape Town Magistrate’s Court on Monday 22 May.
Milnerton cluster commander, Major-General Aneeqah Jordaan, commended the community for their involvement and assisting police with the fight against crime. She further encouraged the community to keep on assisting the police in ridding their neighbourhoods of criminal elements.
