The search is on for a ‘’Hopeful Hero’’ who can make Cape Town laugh out loud with R10 000 up for grabs and a live performance at the City’s Festive Lights Switch-On event and concert at the Grand Parade on Sunday 1 December.

The City of Cape Town’s People of Hope Comedy Competition is a new addition to this year’s festival line-up to celebrate the city’s diverse humour.

The competition is open to aspiring comedians of all ages who are ready to bring their best ‘‘hopeful humour’’ to the stage.

The winner will receive R10 000, with second and third place receiving R5 000 and R2 000 respectively.

The top three also get the opportunity to showcase their talent at the Festive Lights Switch-On event.

‘‘This year’s Festive Lights Switch-On is about more than just lights – it’s about the people of Cape Town. Our people are people of hope and express themselves through humour that shines through the heart of Cape Town.

“There’s something magical about laughing together – a shared experience – and as we Capetonians know how to have a good time, I’m keen to celebrate the talents that make this city so special and meet you all on the Grand Parade for a good chuckle and some excellent entertainment,” said Mayco member for safety and security, JP Smith.
