Young and old are welcome at Royals Elite Dance Studio.

Royals Elite Dancing Studio in Eerste River welcomes everyone, even if they have two left feet.

Mournisca Eksteen of the club said it was established in 2012 by Tsepie Stuurman.

“Some of the children who started out here are now adults and have families of their own. Tsepie was a champion dancer himself, and when the time was right he stopped dancing and started teaching.

“He then completed his ballroom-dancing teaching qualifications. At a later stage he completed his Latin-dancing qualification and is a ballroom licentiate and Latin associate.”

Currently, Royals has about 70 members altogether. This includes the school in Cravenby and Delft.

“Anyone from the age group of 4 and up can join,” said Eksteen. “We are basically open to all. When Covid-19 struck we had to close the school and only reopened in March 2023. We are so happy to be back and are now in the rebuilding phase.”

She said Stuurman started the school with one goal in mind, to keep kids off the streets and that is still their main goal.

“We are currently raising awareness of the schools existence so that more children, specifically, can join and learn another skill.

“This is especially since we have an art school in the Eerste River area so there is lots of children with the skill. Even if you have two left feet we still want you to come and we’ll take care of the rest.

“We want our members to accomplish what they first saw as impossible. We do not have any sponsors at this point but hope that this would change soon – so that we would be able to provide our competitors with at least an Energade, water and snack bar on our competition days.

“At this point we just really wish to get more children interested and hooked on the dance sport instead of standing on the corners.”
