The City has warned of gale force westerly to north-westerly winds which are expected between Cape Point and Cape Agulhas this afternoon.
According to a statement by the City’s Disaster Risk Management department, residents are asked to stay indoors where possible, away from windows, and to be mindful of sudden cross winds if traveling, especially between buildings, fallen trees or power lines and flying debris.
“The wind forecast also increases the risk of wildfires, so we appeal to the public not to make fires in the open or leave them unattended, and to discard cigarette butts properly.”
In the event of an emergency call the City’s Public Emergency Communications Centre by dialling 021 480 7700 from a cellphone or 107 from a landline.
