The City of Cape Town’s Urban Mobility Directorate has announced that a series of traffic-calming measures and new pedestrian walkways will be implemented across several neighbourhoods, including Milnerton, Melkbosstrand, Parklands and Table View.
According to the City, the initiative forms part of its continued efforts to enhance pedestrian and road safety — particularly in areas near schools, play parks and community amenities where vulnerable road users are most at risk.
“These traffic-calming measures and all the new footways being constructed across neighbourhoods in Milnerton, Melkbosstrand, Parklands, Table View and Atlantis form part of the City’s ongoing commitment to improving pedestrian and road safety,” said the City’s Mayco member for urban mobility, Rob Quintas.
“Residents may experience some noise and temporary traffic disruptions along the affected streets, and we thank all road users for their patience and cooperation.”
The roadworks are scheduled to take place from 6 November this year until 24 April 2026, provided that all goes according to plan. Work will take place between 7:00 and 17:00, Mondays to Saturdays, weather permitting.
Areas affected
The planned works include:
Milnerton:
- Speed humps along Oxalis Street;
- A raised intersection at Mimosa Street and Ixia Road.
Melkbosstrand:
- Speed humps along Drommedaris Street.
Parklands:
- Speed humps along Deptford Crescent and Beacon Road;
- A raised intersection at Humewood Drive and Torquay Close.
Table View:
- Speed humps along Shetland Road, Pinto Road, Plover Street, Hutchison Avenue and Palomino Road.
The City emphasised that these upgrades are part of a larger mobility strategy focused on reducing speeding, promoting safe pedestrian access, and ensuring safer roads for all. Residents are encouraged to remain cautious near construction areas and to allow extra travel time during the implementation period.
