Strandfontein residents are advised to prepare for a temporary water-supply disruption on Friday 26 September 2025, from 08:00 until completion of repairs.
This comes after an unexpected water disruption today that lasted several hours. Ward councilor Elton Jansen said on his WhatsApp channel that several sections of Strandfontein were without water today from about 15:00 to 18:00. Water was restored later that evening, but some residents said the water was discoloured.
Jansen advised that the discoloration is normal after a disruption and that residents should run the water into a bucket till it clears and pour it into their gardens.
According to the City of Cape Town’s Water and Sanitation Directorate Friday’s disruption is necessary to repair a broken meter at the Strandfontein Pavilion, identified as the cause of low-pressure and no-water reports.
To carry out the work the water supply from the main pressure reducing valve (PRV) will be shut off at 08:00. The City’s maintenance team will conduct a change-over to the Mandalay PRV to provide an alternate water supply during the repairs.
What residents can expect:
- A brief interruption in water supply during the change-over.
- Restored supply at a lower-than-usual pressure once the change-over is complete.
- Alternate supply will remain in place until repairs are finalised and normal pressure is restored later in the day.
Advice to residents:
- Store sufficient water in advance for essential use.
- Keep taps closed during the shut-off to avoid water loss or damage when supply is restored.
- The City has apologised for the inconvenience and thanked residents for their patience during these essential repairs.
