Neighbourhood watches have received reports of a disturbing trend in Parow and Goodwood, where churches were robbed during congregation hours.
According to Emre Uygun, Bellville Community Policing Forum (CPF) chair, the perpetrators, described as four men, targeted two churches in each area, fleeing the scene in a silver BMW.
“While details are scarce, we urge all neighbourhood watches, security companies, and relevant stakeholders in Bellville to be vigilant and alert their local churches to take necessary precautions,” says Uygun.

Uygun recommends that churches lock their doors during services as a safety measure.
According to Col Shaun van Wyk, station commander at Goodwood police, there is one case reported in Goodwood.
says Van Wyk.
John Ross, Goodwood CPF chair, does not want to identify the church. He says the irresponsible spreading of fake news is causing unnecessary additional stress on our communities. “Social media keyboard crime experts should verify their ‘crime reports’ with CPF before posting,” says Ross.
Van Wyk states that the case is still under investigation and no arrest has been made.
