“Not all superheroes wear capes!”
International Nurse’s Day is celebrated on 12 May every year to honour the contribution of compassion and care that nurses offer the healthcare industry.
“It is also the anniversary of the birth of nursing pioneer Florence Nightingale,” said Tracy-Lee Thomas, nursing manager at Premium Consulting, a staff outsourcing organisation in Goodwood.
“We appreciate our nurses every day for their hard work and dedication they show, and each year we look forward to Nurses Day to express our gratitude towards these special caregivers. Just like they say ‘not all superheroes wear capes’.”
This year the Premium Consulting group embarked on celebrating and commemorating our incredible heroes, in the form of gifts and various events across the Western Cape from 9 to 17 May.
Thomas explained that as the largest health-care profession in the world there is no doubt that nurses are often the only health professionals accessible to many people in their lifetime.
The Nurses Week event started at Khayelitsha District Hospital on Thursday 9 May.
On Monday 13 May the group went to Groote Schuur Hospital. “This event was attended by medical dignitaries, Western Cape Department of Health officials as well as the MEC,” said Thomas.
On the same day the group visited the Western Cape College of Nursing to encourage and motivate nursing students. Sheila Thomas, Compliance Officer of Premium Consulting, responsible for the clearance, vetting and registration of new nursing recruits, can be seen above? engaged with second- and third-year students at the college.
She explained that Premium Consulting was invited to sponsor items at the event as well as engage with nursing students and register interested individuals to assist them with placement for work once they have completed their studies.
On Friday 17 May the group went to Helderberg Hospital where nurses were treated with gifts to express their appreciation for the work that they do.
