A Care Corner for young girls attending Bothasig High School was established at the school recently, thanks to the Bothasig Library and Friends of the Bothasig Library. The Care Corner will provide free sanitary towels and other sanitary products to young girls who otherwise do not have access to it.

Samantha Manel, assistant librarian at Bothasig Library, explained to TygerBurger why this step was taken.

“Access to basic sanitary products is something many of us take for granted. However, for numerous young girls from low-income backgrounds, this necessity remains unattainable. As a result, they often miss school, impacting their education and overall well-being.

Some of the sanitary products donated to the young girls at the school.

“To address this issue, on behalf of the Friends of Bothasig Library, we launched a sanitary and hygiene drive in May 2024,” Manel explains.

Supporting Bothasig High School has always been a key goal, and with the launch of the Care Corner, they are now able to provide much-needed hygiene products to their learners, she adds.

“However, our vision extends beyond this – we aim to expand our support to other schools as well, ensuring that even more children have access to these essential items.

“This initiative is not just for girls. We are committed to supporting both girls and boys by providing sanitary products, sunlight soap, deodorant, and other essential hygiene items,” Manel says.

Manel says every donation brings them closer to supporting more schools and making a meaningful difference in the life of young learners.
