A
46-year-old woman from Cape Town has been re-arrested in connection with
vehicle-finance fraud to the value of over R1,6 million.
The
Hawks’ Serious Commercial Crime Investigation team arrested the woman on 26
October in Cape Town after she allegedly failed to make her vehicle-finance
repayments.
It
is reported that in 2018 the suspect allegedly applied for two lots of vehicle
finance at a dealership using fraudulent documents. The deal was approved by
the bank, resulting in the dealership delivering the vehicles worth more than
R1,6 million to her.
According
to the Western Cape Hawks spokesperson Warrant Officer Zinzi Hani the bank
raised the alarm when she failed to pay her instalments and an investigation
was launched.
The
investigations revealed that all the documents submitted for the vehicle
finance were fraudulent.
A
case of fraud was opened and transferred to the Hawks for further
investigation. The
matter was struck off the roll due to Covid-19 in 2020.
The
suspect was tracked to her home, where she was re-arrested after the case was
put back on the court roll.
Hani
stated the suspect appeared in the Goodwood Magistrate’s Court on Friday 27
October.
