As police officers were wrapping up a crime operation along Bottelary Road last Wednesday afternoon, they were met with a motorist running onto the road.

Officers say he was visibly shaken and speaking in a frantic and confused manner. Gradually, the officers pieced together his story – he had just been hijacked, his car stolen.

“One officer immediately asked him for the details of his vehicle, while the other quickly gathered every bit of information they could. Together, they compiled the description and instantly relayed it to response teams across multiple areas, hoping to intercept the stolen car,” says a police spokesperson.

“The man explained that after his vehicle was hit from behind, he had stopped to check for damage. Two men had leapt out of a smaller car behind him – one of them snatching his keys and taking off in his vehicle, while the other sped away in the smaller car. To make matters worse, he revealed that he was a professional photographer and had expensive camera equipment in his car.”

With coordinated team work between various units assisted by SJC Security the vehicle was found within hours at Delft Mall, undamaged with all the man’s camera equipment still intact. The hijackers managed the get away before police arrived.
