Cape Town Opera (CTO) has announced the postponement of several free community concerts this week following the tragic passing of long-time chorus member, tenor Mlungiseleli “Lula” Nqadini.

Among the postponed events is the concert scheduled for Saturday 7 June at noon at Sarepta Community Hall, along with performances in Gugulethu, Woodstock, and Pinelands.

Nqadini, who joined CTO as a full-time tenor in 2015, was a familiar face on both local and international stages. His credits include Porgy and Bess, Mandela Trilogy, Salome, Der Fliegende Holländer, Carmen, Tosca, and Lucia di Lammermoor. His final performances with the CTO Chorus took place in April at Artscape’s Opera on the Go! and the Fauré Requiem in Paarl.

CTO Artistic Director Magdalene Minnaar paid tribute, saying, “Lula’s voice and joyful spirit will be greatly missed by the entire company. Our heartfelt condolences to his family and friends.”
