The City of Cape Town is calling for public comment on plans to sell municipal land in Stikland, Bellville, for development of a long-distance bus terminus and commercial complex.
The 2,2-hectare site at 21 La Belle Road has been earmarked for private sector development following the City Council’s approval in July to release the underutilised municipal asset.
Strategic location
The property boasts prime positioning with direct access to the R300 freeway via Strand and Bottelary Roads. Bordered by Stikland Industria, Access City retail complex, and Stikland Cemetery, the site is strategically located for long-distance transport operations.
Currently zoned as public open space, the land could be transformed into a modern transport facility featuring multiple bus holding bays, passenger amenities, and supporting retail and commercial development.
Economic growth focus
“This well-located site offers an opportunity to improve long-distance public transport while catalysing local business growth,” said James Vos, Mayco member for economic growth. Vos emphasised that the project exemplifies how the City can leverage public assets for service delivery, investment attraction, and job creation.
“The development of a formal long-distance bus terminus in Bellville will enhance commuter safety and convenience while contributing to the area’s ongoing regeneration,” he added.
According to the City revenue from the land sale will fund service delivery across the metro.
