A man was killed when he was struck by a train at the
Buttskop level crossing in Blackheath in the early hours of yesterday morning.

According to Mfuleni police spokesperson, Captain Nomathemba
Muavha, the unidentified man was hit by a train at about 05:40 yesterday
morning, when he allegedly attempted to cross the railway line. Police have
opened an inquest docket for investigation.

This is a second accident in three months.

On 27 April, seven men travelling in a Toyota Hilux bakkie,
were run over by a train after the driver allegedly ignored the signal not to
cross the railway crossing. All seven, in their 30s, died.

In another incident at the same crossing on 25 August 2010,
10 children died and four more were left seriously injured after their driver
cut in front of a queue of cars waiting at the crossing and tried to cross the
railway line despite descended safety booms.
