Police have not yet made an arrest after the Winelands Pork City butchery on La Belle Road in Stikland’s industrial area was robbed on Monday 3 July, and a worker was killed.
Captain Marchell Rhode, the Tygerberg police cluster spokesperson, said police are investigating a case of business robbery and murder.
“Four men were involved in the armed robbery, where two armed men went inside the shop, while the others waited outside. The men held up the workers. The manager and one security guard were taken to the office and were forced to open the safe.”
Rhode added that an undisclosed amount of money was taken, along with the workers’ cellphones.
“The robbers attempted to steal a vehicle while fleeing the scene, but failed.”
A 26-year-old worker ran out of the shop and was shot in the process.
The robbers then fled in a white Bantam bakkie.
The slain worker’s family arrived on the scene shortly after TygerBurger, where her body was still lying in front of the butchery.
The family and all employees were kept behind police lines and were not willing to share any information with TygerBurger.
The butchery’s telephone lines were engaged and they could not be reached for comment.
