Burning Ford on N7 ‘not a Kuga’

Officials have confirmed a ruptured fuel line was the cause of a vehicle fire along the N7 highway on Sunday.

No, it was not a Kuga, says a City official questioned about a Ford vehicle photographed while burning along the N7 highway on Sunday (29 January).

This is according to a report from City of Cape Town Fire and Rescue Services spokesperson, Theo Layne. He says they received a call at about 13:24 about a vehicle alight along the highway near the Potsdam interchange.

According to pictures posted on Twitter by the Cape Town Freeway Management System, the left lane was closed and reopened about 30 minutes later.

Layne says it took firefighters about 30 minutes to extinguish the blaze, which had spread from the vehicle to nearby vegetation.

“The vehicle was a Ford Fiesta and not a Kuga. The cause of the fire was a ruptured fuel line,” he says.
