A teenage boy was declared dead following a drowning
incident on Tuesday 2 January.

The 17-year-old was swimming at Melkbos Main Beach in
Melkbosstrand when the incident occurred, says Russel Meiring, spokesperson for
ER24.

“ER24 paramedics arrived on the scene to find the
lifeguards and National Sea Rescue Institute (NSRI) performing CPR on a
17-year-old boy.

“ER24 and Life Healthcare immediately took over CPR, and
initiated advanced life support interventions,”
Meiring says.

“After some time, the patient was transported to a nearby
private hospital for further urgent treatment. Unfortunately, the boy was later
pronounced dead.”

Details surrounding the incident are not yet known.
