A new initiative is being planned by the Bothasig Residents Association which involves plant lovers being able to swap their plants with other “green fingers” in the community on a monthly basis.

A unique initiative has just kicked off in Bothasig, which involves “green fingers” being able to swap their plants among each other.

Earlier this month the Bothasig Residents Association (BRA) called on residents to join in on the initiative. The call received a fair amount of reaction.

In the call to join, the BRA says those interested will be able to take part in monthly plant swaps at various parks throughout Bothasig.

“Not only will this be a fantastic opportunity to diversify your indoor and outdoor gardens, but it will also be a great chance to meet fellow residents and plant lovers in our community, and foster a sense of green camaraderie,” the BRA wrote.

This week the BRA chair shed some more light on the plans.

“BRA’s decision to start the Plant Swap Days stems from a desire to foster a deeper sense of community among the residents of Bothasig while also promoting green living and the beauty of our local parks.”

“We believe that bringing plant enthusiasts together in a relaxed and enjoyable setting will not only allow for the exchange of plants but also for the sharing of knowledge and experiences.

“As for when we anticipate having the swaps up and running, we are currently in the planning stages and aiming to launch within the next two months.

“We want to ensure that we have everything in place to make these events as enjoyable and successful as possible,” says BRA chair Mario Borchards.

Planning

The initiative is being driven by the BRA committee members who share a love for plants and a desire to enhance their suburb’s green spaces, he says.

“We will be working closely with local authorities to secure suitable locations for the swaps, and we are confident that with enough interest, we will be able to host them in various parks throughout Bothasig.”

Borchards says they have already seen a great deal of interest from residents eager to participate, and that they are excited to see the community come together to make these swaps a thriving and enjoyable part of the neighbourhood.

“Furthermore, an essential aspect of our initiative is to bring awareness to the various parks scattered throughout Bothasig. We have noticed that many residents may not be fully acquainted with these green spaces, and by hosting our swaps in different parks each month, we aim to showcase the beauty and potential of these areas.

“Increased foot traffic in the parks not only fosters a sense of community but also helps deter undesirable activities by creating a more vibrant and active environment. We believe that by encouraging residents to utilise these spaces more frequently, we can collectively contribute to their upkeep and ensure they remain safe and enjoyable for all,”
