Parts of Bothasig experienced a water outage on Thursday and Friday.
The Bothasig Residents Association (BRA) shared the news on social media, informing residents that they are aware of the continued outage of water across Bothasig. The roads affected include De Grendel Avenue, Wyland Road and Adam Tas Avenue, Steenoven; Batavia; Spillbergen; Nassau; and Cloete streets.
Ward councillor Miquette Temlett told TygerBurger on Friday that the area has experienced several water pipe bursts since Monday 21 July, which have caused significant disruptions.
Temlett, who was on leave at the time, only became aware of the situation on Thursday.
“Since then, I have escalated the matter to the Mayco member for water and sanitation and requested a detailed report to understand the cause of the unusually high number of bursts within such a short time-frame.
“Additionally, I have requested that a water tanker be placed on standby as a precautionary measure to support residents, should further issues arise over the weekend,” she said.
Temlett said on Friday that she has tried to communicate and update residents with as much information as possible over the last 30 hours.
In one of her posts she wrote the following:
“I want to extend my sincere apologies for the ongoing inconvenience and disruption caused by the recent spate of pipe bursts in our area. I know how frustrating and stressful it is to have repeated water interruptions, especially as we head into the weekend.
“Please know that I have formally requested a full report from the relevant department to understand the root cause of these bursts and what measures can be taken to prevent further incidents. Additionally, I have asked for a water tanker to be placed on standby should we face another emergency over the weekend – this is to ensure that residents are not left without access to water for extended periods.
“Thank you for your continued patience, and please rest assured that I am treating this matter with urgency and care. Your comfort and access to basic services remain my top priority.”
She committed to post further updates as it became available.
Workers were on site on Thursday evening to do the repairs.
