We’ve headed into the month of July but youth month celebrations are not over just yet.
The Artscape Youth Development programme which has featured a host of diverse productions dedicated to giving Cape Town’s young performers opportunities throughout the month of June will end this week.
The programme will close with a Borne Frees dance production titled Hear Our Voices from Thursday 13 to Saturday 15 July.
Hear Our Voices will feature 100 young dancers from different schools across Cape Town as they articulate their dreams and concerns through the art of dance.
The production will feature an ensemble cast from different areas such as Belhar, Eersterivier, Khayelitsha, Langa, Gugulethu, Delft, Brackenfell, MithchellsPlain, Woodstock, Retreat, GrassyPark, HanoverPark, HoutBay, Samora Machel, Northpine, Plumstead, Malmesbury and Athlone.
The New World Dance Theatre’s Cape Town based Choreographer, Teacher and Professional Dancer Celeste Botha says the production aims to give a voice to South African youth with gracious expressions on stage through dance, “It showcases all the schools involved and it weaves from one piece into the next with any blackouts or the curtain closing. It flows and takes the audience on a journey.”
Tickets for the programme range from R40 to R300 and are available at Computicket or Artscape Dial-a-Seat on 021 421 7695. For more information, visit www.artscape.co.za.
