One moment she is performing at the Cape Town Carnival and the next she is in Dubai escorting the president of South Africa at the Dubai Expo 2022.

That is the story of Kaylah Solomons, a music teacher from Bonteheuwel who performed at the Cape Town Carnival on 19 March.

She was approached by organisers of the Dubai Expo and is now in Dubai, respresenting South Africa.

“It has been a whirlwind couple of weeks, but as we speak I am backstage preparing to escort president Cyril Ramaphosa. We are six performers representing South Africa,” says Solomons.

Solomons, who by day is a music teacher at a Cape Town school, says she still performs on occasion.

“The last couple of years was difficult for artists and to have the opportunity to perfrom is a blessing. I never expected to be here representing my country on an international stage. We are here to make South Africa proud,” says Solomons, who spoke to TygerBurger from Dubai.

On Monday they were accompanying Ramaphosa on his walkabout, before performing again later in the day.

“I hope everyone in South Africa can see our performances. I do this for everyone back home, but especially for the people in my community who support me on this journey. My students are so proud of me and even gave me a gift before I left Cape Town. I hope this will inspire them to work hard, dream big and achieve their goals. I do this for them,” says Solomons.

She says she is planning on enjoying the remaining time in Dubai before heading back home.
