The body of man was discovered in Parklands next to a railway line, the police say.

The railway-line, between Parklands and the Site 5 Informal Settlement, is used mainly by goods trains.

Captain Adriana Chandler, police spokesperson, says the body was found by a passerby on Tuesday 1 August at about 11:00, who noticed the man lying on the ground near the railway-line.

“Table View police arrived at the scene and noticed that the man was lying on his stomach and that he was barely breathing.

“It appeared that the man had multiple injuries to his body and there was also stones and sticks lying next to him,” Chandler says.

She says medical personnel was called to the scene, but that the man had succumbed to his injuries, shortly after their arrival.

The police have opened an inquest docket. They are asking the community to come forward with any information they might have surrounding the circumstances of the man’s death.

The public can contact the Table View police on 021 521 3300 or call the Crime Stop number on 08600 10111.
