One person died this past weekend when a motorcycle and vehicle collided on Monte Vista Boulevard Bridge near the N1. The accident occurred around 23:00 on Friday 17 October.

Deon Oosthuizen, vice-chair of the Monte Vista Plattekloof Glenn Neighbourhood Watch, confirmed the incident, saying its members were at the scene on the night of the accident. He said one of its first-aid responders immediately went to the scene to assist. The patrollers on duty also went to investigate and found one damaged vehicle in the middle of the intersection with somebody trapped inside, identified as a “passenger”.

“They also saw the motorcycle was in pieces, scattered all over the road.” The motorcyclist was declared dead at the scene, while the person in the vehicle was transported to the nearest hospital.

An armed-response team of the private security company District Watch also attended the scene. The City of Cape Town’s Fire and Rescue Services, Goodwood police and SecureMed ambulance services were also there.

“I know they also spent a significant time on the scene waiting for the forensics to finish examining it and taking photographs,” Oosthuizen said.

Sgt Wesley Twigg, spokesperson for the Western Cape police, confirmed Goodwood police had registered a culpable-homicide case for investigation following a fatal crash on Friday night at about 23:00 on the bridge between a motorcycle and a motor vehicle, which claimed the life of a 40-year-old male.

“The circumstances surrounding the incident are under investigation,” he said.
