Local TV presenter, entrepreneur and wellness advocate Berne de Klerk from Durbanville has been nominated for the prestigious Woman of Stature Awards for 2025 in the category media and journalism. The gala is set to take place in Sandton this coming Friday.
The Woman of Stature Awards, now in its 10th year, honour women making significant contributions in their industries and communities, and for Berne it highlights her dedication to empowering individuals, fostering community well-being, and creating opportunities in the business world via her media marketing agency Five Colour Collective.
What started as a response to uncertainty during the lockdown turned into a platform that has reached over 40 million households, created employment, and provided mentorship to young professionals.
Content Creator
For the past five years, Berne has been at the forefront of the wellness industry using her skills to create content, bringing it to thousands across Africa and beyond with her television productions.
“I didn’t only want to do business, but contribute to society with mental wellness and fitness initiatives,” she told TygerBurger last week.
In addition to producing over 450 wellness episodes on DStv SuperSport, 365 days a year, twice a day, she completed two seasons of her Afrikaans television show, Lewenslus Kuiers met Berne in collaboration with VIA channel.
“It was my proudest moment with my team to launch a television show in my home language Afrikaans with the support of the VIA channel, where women like Azelia Morkel, head of the channel, believed in me to create content that was authentically real, making a true difference in our communities.”
The show invited celebrities across South Africa to share their life stories, and mental wellness. One such feel-good story was when Marguerite Harris and her husband lost kilograms before their wedding joining the Lewenslus trainers to motivate them on their journey.
Platforms with purpose
Berne told TygerBurger that she is looking forward to representing the Durbanville community.
“Reflecting on the nomination I am grateful to have been able to use my company and talents to not just serve the business world but to create platforms with purpose. I’ve always believed that success is not just about moving forward. It’s about pausing, realigning, and ensuring our work has true purpose. This nomination is not just mine; it belongs to every person who has been part of this journey, every colleague, mentee, and community member who has shared in this vision.”
Berne’s impact goes beyond business as she mentored young professionals with internships and even launched projects to support children in need. One such project was to secure funding for an operation for a young boy with cerebral palsy, Markus du Plessis.
“I am very excited about my nomination and to be part of a circle of women who make a difference in business and community to leave a lasting legacy.”
