Bellville taxi rank is a no-go area after police carried out random stop-and-searches on commuters and taxi drivers following yesterday’s shooting.
The shooting claimed the life of a taxi driver and left two bystanders injured.
After being shot and killed, the taxi moved forward, knocking over a bystander who had been hit by a stray bullet.
She sustained a gunshot wound to her upper body. The taxi then collided with a parked VW Polo.
The taxi rank is currently shut down and commuters are not allowed to exit it without being searched by police.
During one such search, Tygerburger journalist Thabang Kuaho witnessed a man being arrested for having a bag of powder-like substance in his possession.
The raid is expected to continue into the evening.
Most passengers were left frustrated at the “inconvenience” the raid has caused.
“How are we supposed to go home now? Taxis are our only mode of transport,” said one woman in passing.
