The family of a 64-year-old woman from Belhar is desperately seeking news about her whereabouts after she left for Mitchell’s Plain but never arrived at her destination.

Johanna (Joanie) Solomons left her place of residence in Old Belhar on 14 January to visit family in Mitchell’s Plain. When her family enquired about her whereabouts the family said she never arrived.

Joy Vrieslaar, a niece of Solomons, says the family made a missing persons report at the Belhar police station.

“She was last wearing a red dress, with white flowers, red leggings and a red tights,” says Vrieslaar.

The story recently had a new twist when someone allegedly saw Solomons or someone resembling her walking in Tokai.

“Morning, I think I walked past this lady yesterday afternoon. She was walking up the road from the circle at Food Lover’s Market Tokai towards the main Road intersection.

“Her hair looks like its almost a monks cut. I think she was still in the red dress.

“I thought it odd that she didn’t have a bag or anything. It was between 13:00 to 14:00 in the afternoon,” reads a message from the person who may have spotted Solomons.

The message further reads that Solomons looked a little “zoned out”.

“She was fairly clean and had sandals on and was walking aimlessly. She seemed to be by herself which is why I thought it odd that she didn’t have a bag or purse with her.

“There is a grey haired coloured man who sits on the steps before the intersection and asks for donations (opposite McDonalds) who would have seen her too. It’s very close the the hospital too.

“I don’t want to give false hope but I don’t want to dismiss it either.”

If you spot Solomons please call the police on 021 953 8100 or Pink Ladies on 072 214 7439.
