Melkbosstrand is one of few suburbs in Cape Town that does not own public sporting grounds, which negatively affects local sporting clubs as they do not have facilities to practise on, according to Leon Steenkamp, social media manager of Melkbosstrand Sports Association (MSA).
It is for this reason that Melkbosstrand residents, with the assistance of the local Ward Councillor Paul Swart established the sports association which is holding a meeting on 31 August to discuss the future of this association.
The meeting will be to identify the sporting needs of the Melkbosstrand community, and will offer an opportunity for local sports clubs to voice their opinion on what they need to be fully functioning, Swart explained.
“A further aim of the MSA is to establish one umbrella organisation which acts in the interest of all sporting clubs in Melkbosstrand,” Swart said.
An association like the MSA is important in any community, as it acts in the interest of all sporting clubs in the area, and ensures a successful and accessible environment for everyone.
The establishment of the MSA is also a way to keep children off the streets, and encourages them to join a sports club of their choice, according to Swart.
The next meeting is on 31 August and the MSA invites any interested sports clubs to attend and discuss their sporting needs within the Melkbosstrand area.
