The ‘Battle of the North’ beckons for road runners as running clubs hit the tarmac

The humble 5 km time trial (TT), a staple event hosted regularly by most running clubs, has just been raised to new heights in the northern suburbs.

In December Cape Multisport Club (CMC) invited Durbanville Athletic Club (Durbac) to join their monthly time trial for a friendly competition: the times of the five fastest women and men would be averaged to see who wins. Bellville Athletics Club and Brackenfell Running Club have been added to the friendly rivalry for the birth of a new time trial series dubbed “The BaTTle of the North”.

The four clubs are taking one another on (in good spirit of course) in quarterly time trials with points for times, participation, and “gees” to determine who will conquer the trophy.

The first “BaTTle of the North” was hosted by Bellville AC Roadrunners on Thursday 1 February from their clubhouse at Jack Muller Park.

The battle lines have been drawn with around 300 runners participating in the first event. The next battle will be hosted by CMC on Tuesday 2 April.
