Police have launched an investigation into a case of attempted murder following a shooting incident in Old Paarl Road on Tuesday afternoon, which left a man wounded.

The incident took place shortly before 13:30 near the intersection of William Dabs Road, police confirmed.

According to Colonel Johannes Marthinus, station commander at Brackenfell Police Station, the victim was travelling with his wife in a blue Audi in the direction of Brackenfell when a white vehicle that had exited from the R300 highway stopped behind them.

The gunmen got out of their vehicle and opened fire on the victim’s car from behind. Several shots were discharged before the gunmen fled the scene, heading back towards the R300.

Despite being struck by at least one bullet in the back the driver managed to continue to a safer location down the road, where he called for assistance.

Kobus Kotze of Titanium Securitas confirmed the victim sustained a gunshot wound to the back. He was treated at the scene and transported to hospital in a stable condition.
