River police have welcomed the arrests of six people who were found in
possession of an undisclosed amount of money.

Police
spokesperson, Daphne O’Reilly, explains that in an intelligence-driven
operation, members of the Cape Town K-9 Unit pulled over a black BMW SUV in
Ruyterwacht on Friday 26 January.

“Upon searching
the vehicle after 08:00 [on Friday morning], members found an undisclosed
amount of money, grinding equipment and gloves in backpacks.

“Five males
and one female, aged between 26 and 41 years old, were arrested for possession
of stolen property. The suspects have been linked to an incident in which an
ATM in Lwandle, Strand, was grinded open [and money stolen]. They tied up the
two security guards at the ATM, but fortunately they [the guards] were not
injured,” says O’Reilly.

She adds
that the incident happened mere hours before the arrests were made.
