There was an armed robbery at the Hillsong Church in Century City this morning, police said.
According to Sergeant Noloyiso Rwexana, two men – one of whom was armed – entered the church and robbed employees of their cellphones.
“Circumstances surrounding the incident are under investigation with no arrests as yet,” she said.
Many social media users took to Twitter and warned people to steer clear of the area because of a “hostage situation”, but Rwexana denied this, saying it was an armed robbery.
“An armed robbery occurred at a church in Century City. It was not a hostage situation.”
It is still not certain if anyone was injured during the episode.
