Market Day is coming to Scottsdene

Excitement is building in Scottsdene as the much anticipated My Cape Town Market is drawing closer.

Vendors who produce delicious food, handmade crafts, and other unique goods were invited by the City of Cape Town this week to apply for trading bays at the hosted market set to take place in Scottsdene over two days in December.

On 6 and 7 December Joseph Avenue Park on the corner of Joseph Avenue and Buiten Crescent will be transformed into a vibrant market place for the community.

This new market is aimed at being a celebration of community, culture and creativity.

“The City is excited to bring My Cape Town Market to Scottsdene. Not only are these markets fun and enriching events that bring communities together, but they also open up important economic opportunities for local entrepreneurs and traders,” says James Vos, the City’s Mayco member for economic growth.

“Neighbourhood markets have rightly become massively popular in recent years with locals looking to reclaim that sense of community, and with visitors seeking out those gems that give them a taste of Cape Town. I am proud to support these platforms that give up-and-coming entrepreneurs and creators the scope to re-connect with previous customers, build new relationships, boost economic opportunities and give locals a well-located market,” he said to TygerBurger.

Grant Twigg, councillor for Ward 7, said he hoped that small business owners in the community would apply to be part of the market.

“My Cape Town Market coming to Scottsdene for the first time is a wonderful opportunity for our local entrepreneurs and residents to come together, showcase our creativity, and support local businesses. I encourage all small business owners and traders in our ward to apply and be part of this exciting event. We hope this is something we can build on for the future,” says Twigg.

Applications for trading at the market are now open, and will close on Friday 31 October at 15:00, with each trading bay costing R78 per bay/per day for the duration of the market.

Application forms can be obtained at the sub-council offices, 87 Brighton Way, between 09:00 and 15:00 on weekdays.
