The One3collective, with assistance from the Merriman Lions Club in Goodwood, hosted a series of dance battle competitions throughout 2021 building up towards the final in November.
“We had the privilege to witness so many different dancers coming to compete from all over the Western Cape and we had the privilege of having a couple of dancers from Germany, Paris and Mexico take part in our competition and we hope to have more this year,” Shane Pretorius says.
The competition saw participants competing against each other in two street dance styles, namely hiphop and krump.
Two dancers that emerged victorious last year are Terry Sauls who took the number one spot in the hip hop section and Charlton Nobel, also known as Bass, who won in the krump section.
Both dancers took home great prizes including a voucher from graphic design company Shane Designs, BigBang Thrift Store in Observatory and a R1 000 cash prize.
“We are now building up towards the new year ahead with more competitions to help create the platform needed for dancers not only to test their skills and levels, but a space where they can come and express themselves, show off their talents and hopefully gain opportunities through this art form.”
