In a worrying trend, another church in Goodwood has fallen victim to a robbery. Following a series of similar incidents reported by TygerBurger last month, Goodwood police have registered a new case of robbery for investigation.

The latest incident occurred on Monday 24 June at approximately 18:45, at the corner of Dingle and Riebeeck road, Goodwood.

According to provincial police spokesperson, Anelisiwe Manyana, “the complainant and other members were at the church when about four to five unknown men entered with firearms. They threatened the members and took their belongings. The unknown suspects fled the scene and are yet to be arrested.”

The Goodwood Community Policing Forum (CPF) is acutely aware of the robbery, says John Ross, chair of the CPF. He emphasised the diversity of Goodwood’s community, stating

“Goodwood is a community of diverse cultures and religious faiths. We have more than 50 places of worship in Goodwood”.

Ross noted that Col Marius Roux from Goodwood police is actively developing an operational plan. This plan aims to include neighbourhood watch groups to monitor places of worship during worshipping hours. “We are also approaching the worship centres to assist in monitoring and reporting suspicious activity,” added Ross.

  • Goodwood police urge anyone with information regarding this incident to contact Crime Stop on 08600 10111.
