An 18-year-old man from Ravensmead was shot in the head at least five times, killing him as he was making his way to school to write a matric exam paper yesterday morning, 14 November.

The victim is believed to have been a member of the Horrible gang, a sub-unit of the 28s gang, and was shot last week in Ravensmead and released from hospital on Sunday 13 November.

Elsies River spokesperson Captain Daphne O’Reilly confirmed the victim was released from hospital on Sunday.

She says the victim was walking down St Dominic Street in Clarke Estate on his way to school in Ravensmead to write his exam at 12:00, when he was shot and killed.

“The victim turned a corner on St Dominic Street and the suspects were waiting for him. When they saw him, they starting shooting at him. He tried to escape by turning around and running away from the suspects, but it was too late. They shot him at least five times in the head and he died due to his injuries,” she said.

O’Reilly added the suspects are part of the Terrible gang in Elsies River.

She said the victim was supposed to testify in a murder case today (Tuesday 15 November).

“The victim’s mother was on the scene and told bystanders she had been waiting on this day to happen.”
