An alleged syndicate who are suspected of operating a brothel in the Milnerton area is appearing in the Cape Town Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday.
Four of the suspects, Juan Francois Warren (39), Camilla Amelia de Waal Rossouw (29), Fareez Allie (35) and Achmat Toffa (41) was arrested earlier this year while their alleged accomplices, Deanne Collins (33), Robin Reyneke (27) and Shantel Bridger (45) are the latest arrests following intensified investigations, Hawks spokesperson Captain Lloyd Ramovha, said in a statement.
The group allegedly extorted almost R3 million from clients.
“The group’s appearance follows their arrest in February after an integrated team comprising the Hawks, Crime Intelligence, the Metro Police and Law Enforcement raided several suspicious addresses around Parklands, Table View and Milnerton.
“Subsequent investigations by the Anti-Human Trafficking team of the Hawks have since uncovered that Bridger and Warren have allegedly been influential in extorting money from clients who apparently used the services of sex workers,” Ramovha said.
He said the group allegedly pocketed nearly R3 million between 2012 and 2015. This is apparently as a result of blackmailing clients, claiming to have recorded the sexual encounters, further threatening to post the said incident on social media.
Ramovha said additional charges in contravention of the Prevention of Organised Crime Act cannot be ruled out.
