City metro officers have begun cracking down on abandoned and broken-down vehicles across Phoenix, Jo Slovo and Milnerton Ridge. The operation, which started last week, forms part of a renewed effort to clean up neighbourhoods and remove long-standing vehicle nuisances.

According to Ward 4 councillor Anthony Benadie, officers have already issued warning notices to owners, giving them a final opportunity to remove their vehicles before impoundment.

He said: “Our new metro officers have commenced the process of marking abandoned vehicles with warnings of impoundment if they are not removed. The officers will conduct repeat visits during the notice period to ensure action is taken.”

Residents experiencing similar problems on their streets are encouraged to report abandoned vehicles to the City’s emergency line on 021 480 7700.

Benadie added: “Please send me the reference number so I can escalate the matter. Let’s clean Ward 4.”
