Members of the Maitland flying squad were conducting routine patrols when they received a tip-off about a vehicle transporting abalone within the Brackenfell policing precinct on Saturday 25 January.
Acting swiftly, officers responded to the location, conducted a search of the premises, and seized approximately 74 kg of abalone. A male suspect was arrested for the unlawful possession of the endangered marine resource. The suspect is set to appear in the Blue Downs Magistrates’ Court to face charges related to the possession of abalone without a permit.
“The possession of abalone without a permit is high on the priority list for the police to detain suspects and bring them before a court of law,” said a police spokesperson.
